This week's DIY project comes to us from Homemade Mamas. It's a super easy Recycled Wall Hanging. Here's what you need:
- Tons and tons of toilet paper and paper towel rolls
- Pencil
- Ruler
- Scissors
- Hot glue (or other affixing method)
- Spray Paint (more than you think, I used 2 cans and easily could have used 3)
All you do is flatten your tubes, cut them into equal sizes, glue them together in a way that is pleasing to you, spray paint and hang! My only issue is that my hanging doesn't lay flush with the wall. I'm sure you other crafters can figure out an easy solution to this problem.

Jacket, necklace, Old Navy; top, DIY; skirt, ring, sunnies, Torrid; shoes, Mossimo at Target; headband, DIY
I think today may have been one of the last sunny days for a while. There are clouds covering the sky and a wind has picked up. I embraced it by pulling out this headband I made when I was living in Portland. It's a little intimidating to wear because it's such an attention grabber, but I was in a cheery mood and the flowers (which are really just squares of acetate bunched together and stitched in the center) reflected that cheer.

This dress is made from New Look pattern 6670. I've got to say, it's a deceptively simple dress. If it weren't for my inability to put a zipper in properly, the back wouldn't be nearly such a mess. But we move on. Initially I was only going to make the sheath, but then when I tried it on, I was uncomfortable with how tight it is. So I made a detachable overskirt for it. The pattern has an overskirt option, but you sew it on. I decided to go with the detachable skirt because I thought maybe some day I wouldn't mind how tight the dress is. And also, because I didn't line it, it could be fun to layer it over other skirts. Coming soon to a blog near you?
My inspiration was the Caprese for You Dress by Tracy Reese on ModCloth:
I'd initially wanted to make the caging details around the neck and hem, but didn't have enough ribbon! Oh well, I think the simplicity of it is nice this way.

Top, shoes, Mossimo at Target; jeans, Old Navy; ring, Torrid; bracelet, unknown
It's warm out. Warm! I can wear a tank top without any kind of cover-up, it's so warm. I'm loving it so much. My mom will probably make fun of me for my pale pale feet, but I'm ok with it. When the sun only shines a few days a month (I may be exaggerating a little), I can't be expected to maintain bronze skin.

Top and skirt, Torrid; blazer, Ann Taylor Loft/gifted from a friend; shoes, Report; jewelry, unknown
Man, this skirt seems to be getting a fair bit of wear recently, doesn't it? I had another interview today, this one went well! I should have a second one with the same company in the next couple days. How exciting! I also put the work into making my hair curly, only to decide I'd rather wear it in a pony tail. Such is life, I'm indecisive about my hair!

As it turns out that I've had this blog for 4 years and yet the only year when I wrote in April was 2008. Seems I'm super consistent, right? Awesome. So here's today's remix:
The Old: April 7, 2008
It's my puppy Bruno! Oh, he makes me so happy! Unfortunately, he lives with my parents now, but I will say he's not nearly so shaggy anymore.
The New: April 7, 2012:

Top, Old Navy; cardigan, sunglasses, ring, Torrid; jeans, Forever 21+; shoes, Converse; necklace, Forever 21; earrings, unknown
These posts are a fun exercise in closet history for me. I lost everything else from this outfit, but the sneakers remain. This is mostly because I don't wear sneakers much at all. As for the rest of the outfit, I decided to stick to the bones of it again--jeans, pink shirt, patterned cardigan. I tried to make it a little sporty with the topknot. The crowning glory is the accessories, I think, just like last week. Is it a grown up thing to add jewelry instead of just dashing out the door because you're late?

Top and cardigan, Old Navy; pants, Forever 21+; shoes, Rue 21; headband, Target
"That time of the month" is fast approaching and the cramps decided to attack with a vengence today. So this outfit is intended to be purely comfortable. And yes, that is a scythe I'm posing with and a bow behind me. I'm a harbinger of destruction don't you know?
