It's the Kanye West "Get Right for the Summer" workout tape. Ok, no, but it is my maid of honor's "Meet Your Pre-Wedding Goals" training plan. Level 1 (more to come as I complete each level) is a combination of the Couch to 5k running plan and a cross-training program the two of us have done off and on a few times. How cool is my maid of honor? I told her that I wanted to run a half marathon before my wedding and she jumped at the chance to break that big goal into small attainable steps!
A lot of brides want to lose weight before their "big day", there's a whole industry for just that. I like to think that my plan is a little different--of course, I want to look my best at my wedding--because for me this isn't about pounds or my dress size. I am guilty of watching a lot of The Biggest Loser and several seasons ago, they began challenging the final contestants to run a half marathon during the time between when they go home from the ranch and the season finale. I thought to myself "shit, if they can be ready to do that in 4 months, why can't I be ready in a year?" This was in January and at the time, I was looking at setting the wedding date in January (still my preferred time of year, but my fiance and I still haven't set a date) so I decided to make the finish date on my half-marathon before my wedding.
So how's the plan treating me? Well enough, I'm only in the first week! I love the calendar-style format, it really helps me visualize when I need to workout and how that fits into my schedule. Lists are harder for me to incorporate for some reason. When I'm told that I need to go for a run 3 times in a week, it's easy for me to forget or to put them off. When things are set up either in a Sunday through Saturday format or even these "day 1, day 2..." boxes, it's easier for me to understand and integrate the workouts into my day. Stay tuned for more updates as I progress through the program!
